BERTIE STINGS THE ‘HORNETS’

After City’s promising trip to Leicester last Friday night, I decided to make the midweek trip to Watford, where I have been thinking for a while that it was somewhere we could pick up a much needed result.  As it turned out, I was right, thank goodness !  Watford went into this match on a bad run for their recent standards, City have been playing pretty well away from the Gate, so, a good result was a possibility.   As reported in the local press, the Vicarage Road pitch was not in great nick, but wow , thats an understatement ! It resembled a ploughed up field.  We started the game with a good tempo, looking pretty dangerous offensively, but, unfortunately looked...

STADIUM & AWAY DAY OBSESSION !

STADIUM & AWAY DAY OBSESSION !

I was at the ‘Gate’ last week v ‘Boro (Oh my God !!) When I bumped into an old school friend who was in our crowd that used to go to City in our school days, walking from Knowle to Ashton every other Saturday to cheer on the Mighty Robins !! Our conversation didn’t take long to get on to a subject very close to my heart….. My first ‘proper’away match.  Now, I had been to Eastville a couple times to watch to watch the Gloucstershire cup against the Sags, but, that never really constituted an away game in my eyes.  The season 1974-75, at easter time, saw City playing Southampton at the Dell in a vital promotion encounter &...

MIXING IT IN EUROPE

January 24, 2011

Red_or_Dead_Sparta_Praha     Bristol City fans have long had a pretty good reputation among the England scene, always taking a good following to most England away matches !   Not many games go by where you fail to see a fair few City flags draped around the grounds of the world. The last few seasons,  City fans have also, it seems, teamed up in some form or another with other clubs’ fans across europe.   For a couple of years,  Dutch club Willem II have had good connections with City fans & on quite a few occasions groups of both fans have visited each others games. Now, it seems,  some City supporters have teamed up with fans of Czech club Sparta Prague !   This banner...

CITY BRUSH OFF THE AUTUMN ‘BLUES’

Hello to all. Well, it’s been a while since I have contributed on here.. A mixture of being very busy, trying to look after a sick Mother &,  well, to be quite honest, being right f#@cked off with the City recently !!!!!! Seven games have passed since my last posting, so I thought I would give a short synopsis on the recent goings on at the ‘Gate’ After a another ‘game of two halves’ performance against Coventry, we managed lose yet another home match to start alarm bells ringing around South Bristol & beyond ! Whats going on ?? We are losing more at the Gate than all of last season, the defence is looking awful.    Then, surprise surprise, we go up to...

CITY FANS HAVE TO BE PATIENT………..

September 2, 2010

Fighting for the West of England

Well, how many of us have heard this one liner over the years ?? All of us during one season or another. Over my years of watching City, this statement has reared it’s ugly head on many occasions from various Managers & Chairman alike, and has on ‘many occasions’ had me crawling the walls & screaming from the rooftops….. “FOR GOD SAKE, HOW PATIENT DO WE HAVE TO BE ?? OVER 110 YEARS & WE HAVE WON SWEET F.A. !! HOWS THAT FOR PATIENCE ?” So, now I’ve got that off my chest, I happen to think that this season, more than any, patience is what IS needed from us City fans. After going through the most...

Pictures from Southampton v city and City v Watford

Here are some pictures from the last couple of weeks. Went to Nevada’s for City v Southampton – great display with city winning 1-0 despite McIndoe missing a penalty. Steve B and Rich made it to the bar along with five or six Southampton fans Over thanks giving I was back in Bristol. Met up with a couple of my mates and saw the Watford game.  Nicky Maynard scored a good goal which was disappointingly canceled out only seconds later after the restart…echoes of last season. I think we get too excited after we score!
